Are you good for something?

Matthew 5:13-16

13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything ,except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;

15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

People have been told they are good for nothing,  These words are harsh to hear, and worse if they are true.  Verses 13-16 remind us that believers are to be good for something.  We are good for something when we realize our purpose in life.  Our purpose here and there is to exalt Jesus.  Life works better when you make the exaltation of Jesus your ambition.  Jesus reminds us in these verses that we are salt and light.  He also reminds us that we can be worthless and unproductive if we choose to live outside of God's ordained purpose for our life.  Verse 16 highlights our purpose.  We are to live so that others bring glory to the Father.  Are you good for something?
