Do you worry about what others will think when you pray?

Matthew 6:5-6

5 Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people.  Truly I tell you, they have their reward.

6 But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.  And you Father who sees in secret will reward you.

These verses do not mean we should not pray publicly, because Jesus prayed in public.  Don't pray to impress people, but to express dependence on God.  Jesus teaches us two reasons not to pray.  We should not pray to impress people.  We should not pray to show people how spiritual we are.  We do not pray to be seen by people.  In addition, we should not fear praying in public because of people.  We should pray for the glory of God and the good of others.
