Matthew 7:5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Verse 5 begins with a strong word!  A hypocrite is someone who portrays himself as something he is not.  He is an actor.  A pretender.  Jesus' words to those who are hypercritical are to clean up your act.  The believer is to be living in fellowship with God so that he may be an encouragement to others.  When our hearts are not aligned with the will of God, we cannot be an encouragement to other people.  Our motives will be skewed toward others.  Our focus will be on self-glory and not God's glory.  How can one live in fellowship with God?  You must spend time with God.  You must talk with God.  You must listen to God.  Your spiritual health matters to others as much as it should matter to you.
