Fish and Snakes

Matthew 7:9-11 Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?  If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

These verses should give us an assurance that we will not weary our Heavenly Father nor will He reply in a cruel way to us.  The illustrations given allows us to grasp the perfect goodness and perfect wisdom of our Heavenly Father.  The picture is that of a parent who gives what is needed to their children.  We do not give something cruel or dangerous to them.  We provide what they need.  We attempt to do right by our children.  We attempt to discipline them and meet their needs.  We do so from our brokenness.  Verse 11 provides the contrast.  We are evil and God is good. We may object to being labeled as evil, but in comparison to God we are evil.  The contrast is given to motivate us to call our to God.  Do not be afraid to ask God and do not be scared to keep asking God. God will answer graciously and rightly.
