God Is Love

1 John 4:8-10. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  By this, the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

God is holy and God is love are important attributes of God's character.  God's love is more than the syrupy love that has flooded our land today. Gid's love is not emotionless, but it is far more than what He feels.  God's love is a committed love.  A love that flows from Him to us.  A love not based on how good we are but on His perfection.  God's love is a transforming love.  It changes us.  This is why John tells us that if we do not love, we do not know God.  God's love is a revealing love.  He has shown us love by sending Jesus to die for our sins.  We are able to know God because God has given Jesus as a propitiation for our sins.  The word propitiation speaks of satisfaction or appeasement for our sins.  How has God's love transformed you?
