God Is Compassionate

Exodus 33:19 And He said, "I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you;  and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion."

A simple request from Moses to see God gives us a better vision of God.  God out of love for Moses did not show HIs full glory to him.  To behold the unfiltered glory of God would kill a man.  God didn't give Moses what he wanted, but gave him what he needed.  Exodus 33:19 teaches us that God will answer prayers by giving us what we need, not always what we want.  What did Moses need. He needed to know the heart of God.  He needed to know the character of God.  For God to reveal His name to Moses was to reveal His character to him.  God declares to Moses that He is a God who is compassionate.  He is above us but not apathetic toward us.  He understands that we are like grass.  He knows our fragile frames.  He knows our fears, doubts and discouragements.  God cares.
