Tares Among the Wheat

Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43

The doctrine speaks to the sad reality that not everyone who confesses the name of Jesus is saved.  Jesus told us in the Sermon on the Mount that not every one who speaks His name and does His work is a believer.  Verses 24-30 contain the parable while verses 36-43 contain the explanation of the parable.  The sower in this parable is Jesus (37), and the field is the world (38).  Jesus divides mankind into two categories.  The sons of the kingdom are the good seed and the bad seed are the sons of the evil one.  We tend to look at differences from a human standpoint.  God has given us different personalities.  God has scattered us to live in different places.  WE speak different languages.  We have different skin colors.  We listen to different music.  We read different books.  We hold different values.  The list of our differences appear to be endless.  With all the differences, we forget that the dividing line is between the redeemed and the lost.  We lose sight that there will be a day of reckoning.  A day when the sons of the evil one will be thrown into an eternal fire.  Let us pray for the lost and let us seek ways to share the Gospel with lost people.
